Recovery Train was composed by my friend and long-time collaborator, Joel Hamilton, at an impromptu session at my apartment in Dallas one afternoon in the late 80's. We set up a cassette deck, and Joel created the lyrics in a one take stream of consciousness. This performance includes harp tracks by Toni Berci and bass by Mo Pair.
I was sitting downtown, waiting on a train
Talking to my baby, sweet baby Jane
Can you tell me now, is this the train for me?
Is this the narrow-gauge train, to silver city?
Is this the, recovery train
Recover train
Recovery train, to silver city?
I got a girl back home, her name is Suzanne
She's a good looking girl, but she says
She just can’t be, with a man like me
So can you tell me now, is this the train for me
Which is this the narrow-gauge train, to silver city, I got to know
If it’s the recovery train, I want the
Recover train, I need the
Recovery train, to silver city?
The prohibition came to soon, it’s a stormy cloud upon me
I don’t know who I am sometimes, or where I’m going to be
But I got my old grand dad, I got my old grand dad
It’s in my back pocket you see, we're both waiting on the recovery
Is it the, recovery train
Recovery train
Recovery train, to Silver City?
