Leap and Shout is the result of a collaboration with Philo Hayward, my first music partner, who I met at Eastern Michigan University in the late 1960's. Philo moved to California in the early 70's, before we could finish the song. We stayed in touch after he moved and I wish I could have shared this recording with him before he passed away in 2015. Philo played harmonica, and thanks to my friend, Larry Everhart (who provided a great harp track for it) this song brings back memories of the music Philo and I played together back in the early days.
Let's go walking' down by the river
We can talk a little bit later
Right now all I want you to do is smile
Come on baby, I want you giving'
All the love you think's worth living'
Baby I'm easy, rest your head a while
Take me down to where you're going'
Show me what I'm all about
Sing a song and make love to me
Make my heart start to leap and shout
Leap and shout
Come on with me down to the river
I can make your backbone quiver
I know the reason why you want to smile
Come on baby rev up your engine
We can make a rapid ascension
Come on over and be with me a while
Little bouffant lady, don't you think I'm crazy
I'm not leading' you astray
Life's a lie if you hate it anyway
Come with me and you will see
The joy living' can bring
You won't have to cry no more.
Come on with me down to the river
I know a place we can deliver
All of the things you've been wanting for a while
Come on baby I want you giving'
All the love you think's worth living'
Baby I'm easy, rest your head a while
Take me down to where you're going'
Show me what I'm all about
Sing a song and make love to me
Make my heart start to leap and shout.
Leap and shout.
Come on with me down to the ocean
It can work like a magic potion
I know the reason why you want me to smile
Let's go riding' in the car on Sunday
You call me sugar, I'll call you honey.
We've got the same sweet reason we want to smile.
Little bouffant lady don't you think I'm crazy
I'm not leading' you astray
Life's a lie if you hate it anyway
Come with me and you will see
The joy living' can bring
You won't have to cry no more
You won't have to lie no more.
And you won't have to die, no more
